Big Bad Voodoo Daddy pays tribute to Cab Calloway

Big bad Voodoo Daddy’s latest CD is said to be tribute to Cab Calloway. And their show at Eisemann Center too was titled on the similar lines as “100 Years of Cab Calloway – Featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy”. The houseful Eisemann Center witnessed performance of quintuple horned blast of retro band swinging with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s all time famous hits.
They performed for almost two and half hours with audience giving them standing ovation in the end.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy has been showing the same levels of enthusiasm and energy like they did when they started off as a house band in movie Swingers 17 years ago. Their horn section has the same over layering and all the members have refined their skills over the years. They enjoy the every bit of it and everyone seems to be at their best, giving out their best performance.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s leader and lead vocalist Scotty Morris has come long way along the years where many had complained about his voice as generic and flat. Now he can easily change easily into Louis Armstrong to Calloway to Georgie Fame and all of this while taking turns at pumping up the crowd and looking after the band while performing.

Though the night had songs dedicated to Calloway and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy also had songs from Save My Soul, themed on New Orleans. And they ended the show with “Sweet Home Alabama”. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy still sounds fresh even after being completely retro to come as a vibrant band that can entertain audiences.

An Idea of a perfect Romantic Evening!

Looking for Valentine’s Day celebration options?? Then do give music concerts and operas a try as they are one of the best options for spending an evening full of romance and charm with your dear delight. One such evening came my way when I went to attend the first of the two Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s concerts in Thursday evening. Though the Kodak Hall, the venue where the concert was to take place, wasn’t overly crowded, still it was an evening well worth remembering. The romantic ambience and feel of the Kodak Hall was set by the expressive music and Stever’s chocolates which all the patrons got. The artists such as Justin Brown, the dark-haired handsome music conductor from England and soprano Twyla Robinson, the charming beauty in an off shoulder dress, looked beautiful together.

The orchestra began with violins pouring out the tunes from Strauss’ Don Juan and thereafter, the music from various instruments kept coming forth in harmony with each other. Don Juan is the protagonist who was an astute womanizer in the beginning and the music manifested his brilliant attempts at raking in the best possible way. But later, Don Juan is fatally stabbed and there was silence all during that period. But the orchestra returned and the way solo and a couple of duets were performed by the orchestra’s most recently married couple concertmaster Juliana Athayde and oboist Erik Behr and their rendition had a personal charm of its own.
